On December 16, Shannon Reserve in Surry Hills will transform into an outdoor Christmas-themed pop-up curated by artist Jeff McCann and produced by the City of Sydney.

Sydney artist Jeff McCann is known for his fun, vivid designs using cardboard and other recyclable materials and his work is a regular feature at music festivals, street parties and in the visual-art world. This year his designs are the hero of one-day local event, A Very Surry Hills Christmas.

Taking over Shannon Reserve on Crown Street on Saturday 16 December, the event will include workshops showing you how to make your own personalised Christmas decorations – featuring McCann’sfamiliar “eye” design – to hang on your tree and decorate the house. He’s also designed an exclusive Surry Hills Christmas paper that will be available for complimentary gift wrapping of purchases made in the Surry Hills village on the day.

Shoppers will also be able to take part in workshops to make their own Christmas wreaths, DIY-screen printed coasters, and personalised edible gingerbread gifts. There will also be live entertainment and a Surry Hills Santa for photo opportunities and free face painting in McCann’s distinctive style. The artist’s designs will also adorn decorative pyramids and candy- cane flagpoles, turning the reserve into a Christmas wonderland with a difference. “It’s going to be a very tribal, psychedelic Christmas,” says McCann.
